Trailering
We have a horse trailer to help you get your horse to the event, or
you may lease one of our horses for the show! Because we love
shows so much, we are extending special pricing. Usually it
costs about $2.00/mile traveled. So for an event like Houghton
College, which is a distance of 91 miles round trip, that cost would
be $159.00 just in trailering! But we are giving you a great
deal, here is how it works. For shows that Trinity is planning
on participating in (within a 25-mile radius of Trinity), there is a
flat fee of $40.00/horse to cover the costs of trailering, whether
you use one of our horses or your own (of course if you are sharing
a horse you may split the trailering cost. For long distance
shows or shows that Trinity is not planning on attending, please
contact us and we can give you a price
quote.
Here is some more information we'd
like to share with you to give you a rough idea of what you will
experience during show season.
This is
provided to give you some idea of what a typical show will usually
cost. Before each show we can give the price breakdown, as
things like entry fees, stall fees, hauling fees, etc., will change
from show to show. It seems like it adds up to be a lot, but
fees will vary widely, and some costs are split by sharing the horse
with another Trinity rider. Shows add on LOADS of experience
and riding time, are great learning experiences, are great for goal
setting, and are also a lot of fun! Entry fees –
usually between $5 and $25 per class….average is about $8 per
class. The number of classes you do is up to you – most riders
do around 5. Dressage shows are per test, and are
usually about $20. Some shows (like horse trials) have a set
fee for the day. This is always determined beforehand so you
won’t have any surprises! Stall fees – about
$25 for a stall and this is only needed for overnight
shows. This is a cost that can be split between
riders if they are sharing a horse which is usually the case and
stalls normally have to be reserved in advance. Also for shows
that are over an hour away or start very early, we will usually try
to reserve stalls. Hauling Fees – fee
for trailering, gas, loading, etc. – usually charged per mile, so it
depends on how far away the show is! This is another
cost that can be split among the riders sharing the
horse. The cost for Trinity Sponsored shows (shows we
plan on attending) within a 25 mile radius is $40 per horse before
the split. For long distance shows it will be more simply
because of distance however you’ll have the amount prior to the
show. To give an example of the savings; $2.00 a loaded
mile. In the past attending a show like Houghton which is 91
miles round trip would have been $159.00 per horse. Wait
till you see our new trailer!! Coaching fees – $30 -
this includes a lesson on the show grounds the day before (if it is
an overnight show) riding coaching on show day, professional horse
braiding (usually costs $50 alone!) horse bathing/grooming, tack
cleaning, horse loading/handling, help with which classes to enter,
rides to and from show grounds, and all assistance on show
day. Sometimes even includes overnight accommodations!
Kids over 11 are encouraged to tag along with Sarah and help with
preparation, etc., a great learning experience and a big part of
showing! Horse Leasing fees - $75 a
day, again, can be split. Includes the use of the horse
(flexibility is required if others are also showing the horse) and
all tack, equipment grooming and travel products. Students
already leasing the horse on a monthly basis (horse-share program)
will receive priority over reserving the horse for the show.
Realize that when a horse is taken to a show, we can’t use it for
lessons that day or it can’t be ridden by another share rider that
may not be attending the show. Show
Clothes: This is a one time cost of course however certain
clothes are required for some shows. Some shows have more
strict guidelines than others however Sarah will be happy to give
the details on how to prepare & plan. Besides catalogue’s
and/or stores we’ve found E-bay is phenomenal for finding some
of the more expensive items for very reasonable…but be certain to
plan ahead if you go the e-bay route! Food
for day of show: Our new trailer has a small kitchen with a stove
& refrigerator so some planning ahead can keep you well
fed/energized for little money compared to vending stands.
